What is an FTO in aviation?

An FTO, or Flying Training Organisation, is a flight school approved by its national regulator to deliver training that counts towards a pilot licence. In India an FTO is approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation; the European equivalent is an EASA Approved Training Organisation, and in the United States a comparable school operates under 14 CFR Part 141. Outside aviation the same abbreviation refers to police Field Training Officer programmes and to Freedom-To-Operate patent analysis, which are unrelated.

How does the Go/No-Go engine work?

The Go/No-Go engine is a rules-based check that runs before dispatch. It evaluates aircraft airworthiness status, student medical and licence validity, instructor duty time, current weather against applicable minima, fuel sufficiency, active NOTAMs, and whether weight and balance are within limits. It returns a clear authorise-or-hold result with the reason attached, and the decision is recorded with a digital signature as part of the dispatch record.

Does Neural Wings only work for DGCA-approved academies?

Accepted Answer

No. The platform is built on ICAO standards, which are the common foundation beneath national rulebooks, so the operational core — scheduling, dispatch checks, training records, fleet airworthiness, safety management and billing — applies to an academy under any authority. DGCA compliance reporting is what ships today; support for EASA and FAA regulatory frameworks is in active development. If you operate under another authority, tell us which returns and record formats you must produce and we will confirm exactly what is available now and what is on the roadmap.

Can an academy outside India use it?

Yes. Neural Wings is available to flight academies in any country, and the operational modules are not specific to one jurisdiction. What differs between countries is the regulatory reporting layer — the formats and returns each authority demands — so an academy under EASA, the FAA or another regulator should discuss its specific reporting obligations with us before implementation.

How does it help with DGCA compliance?

DGCA requirements are modelled inside the system rather than reported on afterwards, so the audit trail is a by-product of daily work. The compliance calendar tracks every mandated renewal — pilot medicals, licence validity, aircraft Certificate of Airworthiness, radio telephony licences and instructor authorisations — and sends staged alerts before each due date. Standard MIS returns and flying-hour statements are generated in the required formats.

Is the safety module aligned to ICAO Annex 19?

Is the digital logbook acceptable for licensing?

The digital logbook populates entries automatically from verified sortie data — aircraft registration, times, exercise flown, and dual or solo classification — and entries become tamper-proof once signed by the authorising instructor. Cumulative totals, day and night splits and cross-country distances are maintained in the required format and can be exported as a signed PDF at any time. Whether a given authority accepts a digital record in place of a physical logbook is determined by that authority's current rules, so confirm the position with your regulator.

How are instructor duty time and currency tracked?

Each instructor's licence validity, medical currency and accumulated hours are held against their record, and duty time is calculated automatically as sorties are flown. Rostering that would breach a duty limit is flagged before it is published, and competency checks and standardisation flights are scheduled from the same record, so only current and qualified staff are assigned.

Cephionix processes them on the academy's instructions as its data processor, and returns or deletes them at the end of the agreement, subject to any retention period the regulator requires.

How is our data protected?

Access is controlled by role, mapped to the academy's actual hierarchy, so staff see only what their post requires. Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS, and every login, data access and system action is recorded in an audit log by user and timestamp. Does Neural Wings comply with Indian data protection law?

Where the data belongs to an academy using the platform, the request is directed to that academy, which controls it.

Neural Wings runs in a web browser today, so it needs no installation and works on desktops, laptops and tablets on the airfield. Native iOS and Android applications are in development, and the platform is being built so the same login and the same data serve all three.
